Chapter 2: Grammar
Forming a sentence
Louisiana Creole has a subject-verb-object word order which is similar to English.
Take the English sentence: the man has a dog. ‘Man’ is the subject of the sentence. ‘Has’ is the verb and ‘Dog’ is the object. To form this sentence in Creole it would be: Nonm-la gin in shyin. ‘Nonm’ (man) is the subject, ‘Gin’ (to have) is the verb, and ‘Shyin’ (dog) is the object.
