Chapter 1: Greetings and Introductions
Introducing yourself in Creole
Dive into the Creole language of Louisiana, also known as Kouri-Vini, with greetings and introductions that you can use to spark a conversation.
Greetings
| Creole | English |
|---|---|
| Komen ça va? | How is it going? |
| Komen ç’apé kouri? | How is it going? |
| Komen to yê? | How are you? |
| Ki ça di? | What’s up? |
| Hé laba! | Hey there! |
| Bonswa | Good evening |
| Bon matin | Good morning |
| Bonnwi | Good night |
Cultural Note:
In Louisiana, Bonswa can be used in replace of Bonnwi and can mean Good night. However, Bonnwi is usually within the same household. Either way, you will always be correct with either usage.
For this course, we are going to use Bonswa and Bonnwi as they appear in the table.
